Hey all,
If you made it to our meeting last night, thanks for coming.
Scrimmages start this week and this will be the first time our rookies will be on the floor. Vets, if you’re at a scrimmage with rookies then help them out. Remember how you felt the first time you ever stepped on the court. You have valuable experience and knowledge and they’re looking to you. Let’s model the very best officiating for them. Rookies, I know that it can be overwhelming stepping on the court for the first time. You’re going to feel uncomfortable and that is okay. It’s natural. You will be at a gym with a board member and veteran officials. They are there to help you. When you’re off of the court be attentive and observe. Ask a lot of questions. Our vets want to do everything they can to give you the feedback you need to be successful. Ask questions and listen.
Remember, we choose a positive and proactive attitude. The season is just getting started and we have a long journey ahead. It starts with our mindset. It starts with our attitude. If you struggle with a positive attitude then reframe your perspective. We want to give people/circumstances/situations/etc. the most generous read we can give. Circumstances aren’t always in our control, but we can always control our attitude. If you’re unhappy with your game assignments, your partners, the coaches or anything else then reframe your perspective, because we can’t change the facts, but we can change the filter with which we view them.
I also want to remind you that we’ve made a change in scrimmage attire. We will be wearing black shirts, black athletic shorts, black socks and black shoes.
I’m looking forward to a great season and excited that it all starts this week!
Best team on the floor,
